City of Oulu expands use of Nuuka’s services to Kaakkuri and Pohjankartano Schools

September 8, 2024
The City of Oulu is implementing Nuuka’s AI-powered building technology optimization solution at Kaakkuri and Pohjankartano schools. The goal is to reduce the schools’ energy consumption by approximately 13% and cut carbon dioxide emissions by around 33,000 kg per year. Nuuka AI optimizes ventilation and heating operations, ensuring good indoor air quality for users while minimizing unnecessary energy consumption.
The decision to adopt Nuuka Solutions Oy’s AI-based building technology optimization service in these schools is based on positive experiences from Länsituuli School, where Nuuka’s AI optimization solutions were introduced in 2022. Initial results showed that Nuuka’s innovative AI-driven technology achieved the energy-saving targets and improved indoor air quality as planned.
“We are very pleased with the previous results at Länsituuli School, where Nuuka’s solutions met the energy-saving goals and improved indoor conditions. Based on these experiences, it was a natural step to expand the collaboration to Kaakkuri and Pohjankartano schools,” says Johanna Järvi, City of Oulu.
Kaakkuri and Pohjankartano schools are significant educational units, each with a floor area exceeding 13,000 m². Both schools aim to reduce total energy consumption by approximately 13% per year, which corresponds to a total reduction of 33 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
Nuuka’s solutions optimize ventilation and heating operations by adapting to the varying usage conditions of the school. With Nuuka, the required indoor climate conditions are precisely maintained while avoiding unnecessary energy consumption.
“Eliminating unnecessary energy consumption also has a direct impact on carbon dioxide emissions. This is a crucial factor in combating climate change,” says Mikko Maja, Nuuka Solutions.
As part of the implementation, Nuuka will install the necessary indoor climate monitoring devices, enabling real-time monitoring and ensuring that promised conditions are met for users. The service results will be reported after the first winter season in spring 2025.
