Onnelanpolku elderly care home

Carried out in cooperation between Caverion and YIT for Lahden vanhusten asuntosäätiö, the Onnelanpolku elderly care home is designed with the zero energy concept in mind.

Elderly care house

The Onnelanpolku care home is a Finnish trailblazer not only in energy efficiency, but also in its advanced service concept. The energy concept emphasises the management of energy efficiency as a whole. The EU requires all new building to move to an almost zero-energy level by 2021. Onnelanpolku has already met that requirement.

The full utilization of the new building technology implemented at Onnelanpolku has required an extensive energy consumption metering solution which can be used to monitor energy production, performance and the use of purchased energy in relation to set targets. When you know the precise production of renewable energies in various conditions, it’s possible to find the best optimization settings for automation and achieve targets.

To monitor consumption by building technology processes and apartments, approximately  300 energy and water meters have been installed and are connected to the Niagara automation system supplied by Caverion.

In partnership with Caverion, Nuuka Solutions supplied the low-energy Onnelanpolku building with a Nuuka building energy management system to monitor and report on the building’s energy efficiency.

The aim of the energy reporting solution was to carry out a clearly visualized summary report for general use, depicting how the property’s need for purchased energies and water consumption fares in relation to targets. This makes it easy to monitor energy efficiency in various sectors.

The Nuuka BEMS reads data from approximately 300 energy and water meters from the Niagara automation system, uses it to generate an energy efficiency report and calculates the KPI key figures for energy efficiency for various types of energy and water, their costs and CO2 emissions.  It also offers energy specialists analytic tools for the precise monitoring of various situations.

The implementation was designed in cooperation between Caverion, property owner Lahden vanhusten asuntosäätiö and Nuuka Solutions.

The system was taken into use in July 2014.
